One more EP, possibly one more hit, as all to date have been a straight shot. A question that intrigues me a lot is: ”But who the f is Peter Lake?”. If you’ve come to this article, as I’m sure you already know, an anonymous singer and songwriter from New York. But this question goes beyond the superficiality it presents.
After researching this artist, I was amazed to learn that Lake is not only anonymous to his fans, but also to those who follow his musical career professionally, which makes him unique. He’s the first artist in the history of music where absolutely nobody knows anything about him, he’s a complete ghost. For fans it is certainly a painful and passionate situation.
I decided to get in touch with Peter Lake, through Instagram (@peterlakemusic), after a few attempts I got an answer, I admit that my curiosity for this artist who has more than 10 million streams on Spotify, was and is (I emphasize the fact that of this last verb conjugation in the present, because in fact the curiosity for this artist still remains) gigantic. After my interview request was accepted, I asked a question that for me would be key: -”Who the f is Peter Lake?”. With some levity he replies: ”I think the real question is – Who cares? – which i say – I don’t know- you don’t have to care, it doesnt matter, its okay, there is an old saying : you never know what snowflake is gonna cause an avalanche, and I’m just trying to make it snow, but I’m not trying to make an avalanches, thats gotta come from nature, who the fuck is Peter Lake? It’s a fucking singer anonymous songwriter, who the fuck cares?’’
The conclusion I draw from this answer is that we will continue in ignorance. I dare to say that we will probably get to know him better through music, or not, it will probably be the best of our hypotheses. At the same time we are talking about an artist who has no musical genre, which somehow fills us and touches us, everyone a little. On the other hand, there is no social pressure to want to listen to someone for what we know or see in him, everything is based on music. Do we call this choice heroic or selfish? Which brings me to another question: But do we really need a background or a face? Maybe not, we have to start dissociating what we see from what we feel. And to the sound of Peter Lake’s music, if there’s one thing that happens, it’s feeling. In a year, 3 EPs and 5 singles were released. Now, we will be presented with another EP. It is heard that Lake, before even starting his career, that he already had more than 200 songs, all of them of his own authorship, but who the f is this man?
The question will remain unanswered, however one thing we can be absolutely sure of, quality music will not be lacking. And the conclusion drawn from the brief exchange of messages is that Lake will never stop.
